Can air conditioning systems be installed in a home?

Absolutely! We’ve all noticed that summers in the UK are getting longer and warmer, and a hot, stuffy house can be very uncomfortable. Cooling down your home and creating a pleasant environment for you and your family has many benefits, from better productivity in working spaces and offices, to a better night's sleep, particularly when it's warm and muggy outside.

Where can air conditioning be installed in a home?

You can choose to have air conditioning installed in certain rooms or throughout your property. Many people choose to install air conditioning in, for example, a home office, garden office, conservatories or main bedrooms, and straight away notice the benefits of air conditioning installation in these important home spaces, from cooler living to improved air quality.

How expensive are air conditioning units to install in my home?

Installed air conditioning units from BHE start from £1500 for a small single room and a multi-split air conditioning system, where you can control the air flow in individual rooms, as well as a starting price of £1500 per room for a whole house split air conditioning unit installation.

Is air conditioning installation in my home healthy?

This is one of our most common air conditioning FAQs, and we’re pleased to be able to confirm that, when you use your air conditioning correctly and keep it properly maintained, you won’t suffer any adverse health effects.

Once you’ve installed air conditioning in your home, you’ll soon feel and appreciate the benefits of being able to control and adjust the temperature in your home. Air conditioning filters out many impurities which can linger in poorly ventilated areas, but do remember that an air conditioning unit is NOT a ventilator, and you should regularly open windows and doors, even in rooms where you have an air conditioning unit fitted, to allow air to flow in and out.

Air conditioning removes a lot of moisture from a room in cooling and reducing its humidity levels which, in time, can draw water from your skin and dry it out.

Good maintenance and use of your air conditioning installation in moderation will help to ensure that the health benefits of your air conditioning unit outweigh the downsides.

How much do air conditioning units installed in a home cost to run?

As energy costs have been so unstable in recent years, this is another of the questions we’re most often asked.

We’ve answered more FAQs about the costs of running air conditioning installations in your home in this article.

Having solar panels fitted on your property will greatly reduce your air conditioning running costs, as you will be generating most electricity at the same time as you need the cooling provided by the air-con, so this will cut the running costs of your system quite substantially.

Can air conditioning units be used to heat as well as cool a room at any time of year?

Yes! It’s a myth that air conditioning installation just gives you cool air – you can adjust the settings on an air conditioning system to heat up or cool down the air in your rooms, giving you an extra heat source when you don’t want your central heating to do all the work.

No matter what the weather’s doing outside, simply set your desired temperature and the air conditioning unit will adjust the heat up or down quickly using just one set of controls.

Does air conditioning installed by BHE purify air?

No - air conditioners in themselves do not purify the air. Unlike air purifiers, air conditioners are not designed to fully filter the air, although some air conditioning units have filters that trap larger particles such as dust, pollen, and other contaminants. However, these filters are limited and cannot capture all airborne pollutants that affect air quality. For effective air purification, you should use air purifiers or UV-C lights.

Can I operate my air conditioning installation remotely, e.g. through my smart home controller?

Yes! The rapid growth in smart home technology extends to air conditioning units, and BHE installs one of the top-selling systems on the market by Worcester Bosch. Features of these modern air conditioning units installed by BHE include:

- WiFi-connectivity, so you can control the unit from your smartphone
- Maintains air quality through its unique ‘i-clean’ mode
- Protects against freezing inside the room
- Removes humidity
- Quiet when in use
- Self-cleaning
- Designed to reduce energy consumption
