BHE Services chosen to upgrade gas boilers & central heating in Wigan & Leigh homes

BHE Services (Bolton) Limited, based at Wilkinson House, on Radcliffe Road, Bolton, has been selected to carry out boiler changeovers, conversions and full heating upgrades for over 160 private sector properties in both towns.

The work is being funded by the Government’s Go Early Scheme (and managed locally by Wigan and Leigh Housing). It aims to alleviate fuel poverty amongst low-income households and kick start the Government’s ECO Funding and Green Deal campaigns in the North West.

Over 20%* of people in the North West including Wigan and Leigh are living in what is termed ‘fuel poverty’ where households have to spend more than 10% of their income on fuel.

Under the scheme,  BHE Services (Bolton) Limited, which has been providing gas services to domestic and commercial customers since it started in 1971, will replace old, inefficient boilers and central heating systems for the 160-plus properties.  The scheme is free to qualifying householders.

Paul Wilkinson, Operations Director of BHE Services (Bolton) Limited, said: “We are obviously delighted to have been commissioned to carry out this boiler and central heating replacement scheme. Our team of more than 50 engineers will be carrying out the work over this month to ensure that these households have modern, energy-efficient boilers and central heating systems to keep them warm, and combat fuel poverty.”

He adds: “Research conducted by the Energy Saving Trust shows that fitting a new ‘A’ rated boiler can save a household over £310.00 per year. If households have new heating controls fitted they can save up to £100.00 per year. Further research** has shown that even by just fitting a new A rated central heating pump, households could save more than £70 per year on their energy bill.”
